Apply for Funding

CHERISH-DE facilitates projects, research-impact visits and secondments through a selection of funding mechanisms. Our funding streams are designed to nurture ideas and collaborations and bring these to maturity in the form of services, products and devices that will meet the challenge of the Digital Economy. We support interdisciplinary proposals that will lead impact in three broad areas of the Digital Economy: Health and Social Care, Resource Constrained Communities, and Safety and Security.

Which type of funding is right for you?

There are three main types of funding, as follows:

  • Escalator Fund: Our Escalator fund provides seedcorn funding to explore and stimulate ideas, support proof of concept activities and develop prototypes and pre-production devices. The fund offers three levels of support to encourage beneficiaries to return for additional funding over time. View our Escalator Fund Documentation for more information. Our 4th Call for Proposals opened on September 26th. In this call cycle we invited proposals to our Escalator Fund, in focused and open modes. Our 4th call has now closed. The next call will be early 2018. .

The open mode allows for those submitting proposals based on research, which meets the objectives and themes of CHERISH, that is interdisciplinary and that centres around digital innovations. To apply for open mode funding please fill out the open mode application document and submit it to cherish-de@swansea.ac.uk ; please also complete the open mode online form.

The focused mode invites interdisicplinary research proposals which meet the objectives and themes of CHERISH, and that drive innovation surrounding one or more of the following emergent technology areas to create a novel form of device, platform, or service:

    • Internet of Things
    • Speech and conversational systems
    • Big Data
    • Autonomous vehicles
    • Robotics
