Apply for Funding

CHERISH-DE facilitates projects, research-impact visits and secondments through a selection of funding mechanisms. Our funding streams are designed to nurture ideas and collaborations and bring these to maturity in the form of services, products and devices that will meet the challenge of the Digital Economy. We support interdisciplinary proposals that will lead impact in three broad areas of the Digital Economy: Health and Social Care, Resource Constrained Communities, and Safety and Security.

Which type of funding is right for you?

There are three main types of funding, as follows:

  • Escalator Fund: Our Escalator fund provides seedcorn funding to explore and stimulate ideas, support proof of concept activities and develop prototypes and pre-production devices within the digital economy. The digital economy, as CHERISH PI Matt Jones reminds us, is simply the ability to provide platforms, services, and devices that enable people to transact and relate - be that for an economical gain, or a societal gain. The fund offers three levels of support to digital economy research and encourage beneficiaries to return for additional funding over time.

Our 5th Call for Proposals opened on May 4th 2018. The deadline for expressions of interest is May 18th 2018 now June 4th 2018. Please submit your expressions of interest using our Online Application Form. Please also have a look at CHERISH prinicipal investigator Matt Jones talk about our Escalator Fund and let his words inspire and guide you as you think and write about your project ideas.

  • Strategic Secondments: Strategic Secondments are designed for Swansea University academic and research staff who are interested in building links with external partners. These are funded placements into public, private and third sector organisations that allow you to develop skills and knowledge, foster and scope out new collaborations. View our Strategic Secondments Documentation for more information. Strategic Secondment applications are processed on a monthly basis. Apply Here

  • International Mobility Fellowships: our mobility fellowships support travel and subsistence for a visit abroad to an international research collaborator and vice versa. View our International Mobility Fellowship Documents for more information. Applications for International Mobility Fellowships are processed on a monthly basis. Apply Here.
